Essay #2 Thesis "A Modest Proposal"

Society Needs At Least One Voice To Speak Up And Call For Change

Society does not wake-up one day to poverty, hunger, and hatred, but instead these things enter into society over time where they grow to transform a society, unless someone stands up them.  Blacks did not wake up in the 1960’s to find out racism was beginning on specific day and time, but instead a history of events illustrated unfair treatment of a class of people.  People did not wake up on September 11, 2001 to realize that terrorists hated America, but instead a tension had been building for a long time.  What is needed for a society to wake up and realize change is needed?  A person that is not of the normal day-to-day voice that can significantly speak to our hearts and minds.  This person can at times change the direction society is heading.  Jonathan Swift is the voice of his time and says something that is not a normal day-to-day thought or tone, but instead intended to shock society into fixing itself.  Jonathan Swift wants what is good for his country by taking care of the young and the poor (Swift par 33).  What more basic virtue should man want than for his country to be good and right.
